| Denver Broncos History The Denver Broncos are a member of the American Football Conference Western Division. They began play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League, the old AFL. The Broncos have reached the Super Bowl six times, winning it in 1997 and 1998. Quarterback John Elway came to the team in 1983. Before John Elway, the Broncos had over 24 different starting quarterbacks in 23 seasons. John Elway remained the quarterback through five Super Bowls and the Broncos won two of them. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII. John Elway ranks 1st in NFL history in 4th quarter comeback victories. In the post-John Elway years, Coach Mike Shanahan has taken the Denver Broncos to the playoffs several times. |
