| Green Bay Packers History The Green Bay Packers are based in Green Bay, Wisconsin and are members of the NFC North Division of The National Football League. The Packers joined the American Professional Football Association in 1921, which became the NFL. They were Founded in 1919 by Earl "Curly" Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun. Lambeau solicited funds from the Indian Packing Company for uniforms for the team on the condition he would name the team after the sponsor. That's why thye are called the Packers. The place where they play today is called Lambeau Field. The Green Bay Packers have won more football league championships than any other team in the NFL,12. They won nine NFL Championships prior to the Super Bowl era. The Packers have won 3 Super Bowls: Super Bowl I in 1967,Super Bowl II in 1968 and Super Bowl XXXI in 1997. Under coach Vince Lombardi,the Packers of the 1960s won five league championships over a seven-year span that culminated with victories in the first two Super Bowls played. |
